As we are all struggling with the realities of the Covid-19 pandemic, the usual back to school shopping trips have all but been cancelled. My daughter was looking forward to meeting new friends this year as she embarked on a new adventure; Middle School.
Unfortunately, school is not scheduled to re-open here until January 2021, so we won’t be heading to the mall to purchase a new wardrobe this year. New outfits always make me feel invigorated and they inspire Carmen as well. I decided that a new outfit would be perfect to mark this milestone.
I chose the Love Notions Cartwheel Collection because it has a ton of quick and easy knit options for girls. (Check out the Love Notions Blog to see how Koe used this pattern to make the cutest costumes for her son). It comes with a peek-a-boo back top, tunic, and dress; a double tiered skirt, shorts and capris pants. Carmen chose the tunic version style along with capris in her new favorite color, yellow.
Based on her measurements, I sewed a size fourteen for both pieces. The fabric is a mid-weight cotton jersey from deep within my fabric stash (I have no idea of its origins). It was easy to work with and was the perfect weight for this style.
There are only four pattern pieces for the top and two for the capris pants. The front includes pieces for the top back, back, sleeves and neckband. The capris pants call for one leg pattern piece cut double and a waistband. The directions are clearly laid out in bright photographs to make this an easy sew for sewists of all levels.
This pattern is the Feature Friday pattern this week and is on sale for $5 on July 31st. In addition, to celebrate the launch of their new brick and mortar store, Love Notions is having a 50% off Flash Sale on their patterns from, July 31st through August 1st 2020.
