I had so much fun at the Maryland Chapter of the American Sewing Guild’s Saturday Sew Fun Retreat with Susan Khalje.
We learned about the different types of lace and how to apply them by hand. Mrs. Khalje first showed us how to apply corded French Alencon lace with a fell stitch. She took great care in demonstrating how to cut the lace into shapes and how to use the netting to our advantage during application. We also learned about the delicacy of Chantilly lace and about the beautiful large motifs of Guipure lace.
We were then taught how to cover a snap with fabric along with a surefire method to attach it securely so that it will never come loose. Mrs. Khalje also demonstrated and discussed how to create thread hanging loops and thread chains for a refined finishing touch. My favorite part of the class learning how to sew a perfect hand-rolled hem.
I was so thankful to Maryland ASG for hosting such a wonderful program. Consider joining the Maryland ASG if you are local or check out the ASG website for your local chapter. Additionally, i you want to take an online class with Susan Khalje, check out her Sewing Couture Skirt and Dress Classes on Bluprint.com.
