Happy Friday Everyone!
It’s Rainbow Week for the #wearhappycolor Instagram challenge and I decided to make a new Love Notions Rhapsody Blouse to celebrate the occasion. I’ve had this gorgeous rainbow printed fabric in my stash for far too long and this challenge motivated me to finally to make something with it.
Fabric
The fabric is a polyester satin that I purchased from JoAnn Fabrics at least three years ago. It has beautiful jewel toned paint splashes in a gradient pattern that I fell in love with from the moment I saw it. I just wish it were as easy to sew as it looks.
The Rhapsody pattern has several styling options and I initially planned to make it with a flounce sleeve and front ties. As I sewed it, I realized this satin was super slippery and shifty. For the life of me, I couldn’t get the sleeve flounce to hem evenly and when I went to unpick it, the fabric snagged. I was so bummed, but I persevered and went with the sleeve cuff instead. I then went on to sew the front ties, but I couldn’t get the ties to lie flat and even, so cut them off and and went with the non-tie view and I am much happier with the result.
I am glad I pressed forward to make this beautiful top. I’ll certainly be looking into better ways to sew with fiddly fabrics like this satin to avoid these problems in the future. I absolutely love the look of this top and know I’ll be rocking it on fun girls nights out and evening dinner dates with the hubby. Today, I paired it with a cute vintage Guess purse that I picked up from the Goodwill Thrift Store and my favorite cobalt blue sandals from TJ Maxx. I just love how these pieces bring out the rainbow colors of this print.
I’ve made the dress version of this lovely pattern in a beautiful floral print and I love wearing it as well. It is such a fun dress to wear during this time of year with all of the fun and bright flowers on the fabric.
