Pattern Review
The Eloise is a collarless and cropped jacket. It is unlined and finished with facings on the front, neck, and hemline. It’s designed for mid to heavy-weight wovens like wool, denim, tweed, and gabardine. I chose a stable leather-look Ponte knit instead and it worked perfectly with the design. I purchased this snake-look fabric from Chic Fabrics, NY and the textured design really enhances the style lines of the pattern.
The pattern comes with a very detailed booklet that includes company information, sewing term glossary, interfacing tips, a guide to creating French seams, and color photo instructions. There is also a detailed YouTube video tutorial for sewing the entire garment that I found especially useful when attaching the front facings. An advanced beginner can easily handle this jacket with the help of the included tutorial.
Pattern Pieces include:
Front (cut 2)
Back (cut 1 on Fold)
Sleeves (cut 2)
Optional Front Patch Pockets (cut 2)
Facings – Front, Neck, and back hem
The pattern comes in UK sizes 6-20 for with finished bust measurements of 36.6 inches to 50.4 inches. I sewed a UK size 10 for my 36 -inch bust for a finished measurement of 40 inches. I also took in the shoulder seams by 1/4 on the front and back pieces.
The pattern is sewn with a one-centimeter seam allowance. There are bust darts on the front pieces and back side-darts on the back piece that shape the garment to your body. The facings are interfaced and finished with serged edges. The entire jacket is edge-stitched for a crisp-clean look.
Styling
I chose to wear this jacket with the Bibi Skirt from The Tilly and the Buttons Stretch Book that I made last year with the same fabric. I reviewed this easy skirt on my YouTube channel and you can check it out here: Leather and Lace for the Holidays. I also wore one of my favorite Tilly and the Buttons Agnes Tops and some leather Rockport boots to complete the look.
