Happy Thursday, everyone.
Today, I am sharing my review of Simplicity 8265. This is a cute and easy wardrobe pattern with several pieces to help you transition into spring. I made views B and C to make a cute striped tunic top and skirt set that I can wear on the intermittent chilly days that are bound to occur before we have consistent warm weather.
Pattern Overview
This pattern has several pieces that you can use to create many looks. It includes knit pants (View A), a mid-length skirt (View B), a long sleeved tunic (View C), long sleeved jacket (View D), and a vest (View E) . It’s available in two envelope sizes: 6-14 and sizes 16-23. It is primarily designed for stable knits such as ponte and double knits but the jacket can also be sewn in stable wovens, such as jacquards, wools and other jacketing fabrics.
The Skirt
This is an amazingly simple skirt for stable knits. It only has three pattern pieces and can be whipped up in an hour or two. I shortened the skirt by about four inches as it was entirely too long when I tried it on during construciton.
I used a blue Ponte knit from my stash and have created a fun tutorial to create this easy skirt for beginners. This tutorial is part the fun SewWardrobe Series that I am participating in with Tea of Crumpetsteandsewing on YouTube. Check out the tutorial here:
The Tunic
This is an easy long-sleeved top with a cute side slit. The side slit was a little high for me, so I’ll definitely lower it a bit the next time I sew this view.
I used a wide striped ponte knit I bold red, white and blue that I picked up during a New York City shopping trip a few years ago and it matched perfectly with the knit skirt. I share how I matched up the strips in this video:
Final Thoughts
This is a a great wardrobe pattern that I know you’ll enjoy having in your collection. It has several pieces that you can mix and match with your current wardrobe. Check out Tea’s tutorials on how to sew the pants and jacket from this pattern from our Sew Wardrobe Series.
Until next time,
Happy Sewing,
