Happy Friday,
Today, I wanted to share some fun rompers that I’ve created for my daughter and me for the #sewmaxiformothersday Instagram sewing challenge that I am hosting with Tea of Crumpetsteaandsewing. One of the available options for the challenge is to sew a maxi length jumpsuit and this year, I thought it would be fun to sew some fun knit rompers for a fun Mother-Daughter look. To find out more about this challenge, check out the launch blog post here: #sewmaxiformothersday Instagram Sewing Challenge.
Pattern Overviews
These are fun patterns with several styling options. The bodice has a cute and easy to apply v-neckline with different bodice options. You can sew this with dolman cap sleeves or as a sleeveless tank. There are options to add waist ties, a skirt bottom, shorts, cropped pants or full length pants. Sizing for the ladies version is from 0-32 (with full bust options) and the girls version is available in sizes 2T-16 for small toddlers through to teen sizes.
Fabric and Sewing
My daughter chose some fun double brushed coordinating floral knits from JoAnn Fabrics for our looks. The slate blue and spring colors pair perfectly and I love how they complement each other for our rompers. This is one of the most soft and comfy fabrics that I have ever worn and its great for lounging around the house. I also used some white cotton interlock from my fabric scraps to create the white neckline and contrasting pockets for the girls version.
I didn’t have to make too many pattern adjustments to either of our jumpsuits. I chose to line the pockets of my daughter’s romper so that some of the green would peek through on her side patch pockets. For my romper, I raised the bodice waistline by one inch and shortened the crotch length by one inch to account for my 5’1″ height. Styling a Jumpsuit
This pattern can be dressed up or down with only a few styling accessories. I looked through my closet and decided to add a cute straw belt to elevate the jumpsuit a bit. I also pulled out a fun straw bag that I thrifted years ago to go with this comfy vacay look. My favorite open to mule heels from TJ Maxx were the perfect shade of blue and its brown heels worked to coordinate with the belt. My daughter styled her romper with some fun elevated white sneakers that matched the neckline and pockets on her jumpsuit.

April 23, 2021I love your Mother/Daughter jumpsuits. I will definitely check out your fitting blog post as I have stayed away from rompers/pants because I am short and most patterns are not designed for petites.
