This year, I am participating in the Sewatop 2020 challenge created by Claire of Penguin and Pear on YouTube. This is the second year she has run this fun challenge and I have been enjoying seeing all the lovely tops created by talented sewists. I’ve been introduced to so many new patterns that I want to add to my ever-growing pattern stash. Check out all the lovely makes for the challenge! #sewatop2020 Playlist.
I decided to sew The Rosy Pena Felicity Top because I love the faux wrap style and the pretty petal sleeves on this blouse. I purchased this pattern shortly after it’s release last year and thought this was a perfect opportunity to sew it and share with the sewing community. There are two available views on this pattern including the top with peplum hem and a dress with a high-low hem and long flounced sleeves. I definitely want to sew the dress version after making this lovely top.
The pattern range for this top/dress pattern is from an XXS -XXL (bust 33-45 Inches/84-144 CM and hip size ). This is a loose-fitting style and there is significant ease for a relaxed look with five inches of ease above body measurement. This style should work for a variety of body types and shapes. I sewed a size small at the bust and graded out to a size medium at the waist and hip. The top is a tad large on me and I’ll definitely go down a size the next time I make it.
The fabric I used is lightweight rayon challis gifted to me from Sewbasically.com. It has perfectly sized flowers for a top (so you don’t end up with a flower boob). They have wide variety of earth-friendly fabrics in solids and prints at reasonable prices. Check out my YouTube video for a 30% off coupon code to their shop.
The directions on the pattern are clear and beginner friendly with seam finishing instructions that are helpful for any beginning sewist. I finished the insides of the top with French Seams with the exception of the sleeve seams and the peplum to bodice seam. There I sewed a straight seam and finished with my serger. I am happy with the results and think the extra time spent on the French seams will extend the wear of this piece.
