Are you ready for Fall yet? Even though it’s still pretty warm here in Maryland, I’m getting Autumnal feelings. The leaves are already starting to turn bright yellow and fiery red. I’m getting a head start on the upcoming season by sewing up a cute hoodie using the Sloane Sweater Pattern from Love Notions.
Features
The Sloan Sweater is a top pattern designed for knit fabrics. It has several options including:
- A size range from extra-small to 5X for busts of 33.5 to 57.5 inches.
- Two unique bodice options:
- View A is a fitted top with a curved hem.
- View B is a more boxy style with a hem band.
- Optional design elements including a yoke, neckband, elbow patches, hood, and kangaroo pocket.
- An option for a standard bodice or a full-bust bodice so you don’t have to make a full bust adjustment.
- A small number of pattern pieces including a front and back bodice, sleeves, cuffs, hood, and hem band.
Sewing
I sewed a size medium for my 36-inch bust. The only change I made was to shorten the bodice pieces by 1.5 inches at the shorten/lengthen line for my short stature. I hemmed the bottom with a narrow rolled hem stitch on my serger. It only took me about two hours or so to complete this top, so it’s a quick and easy make.
Fabric
I used a cute Nicole Miller cotton-blend Jersey print for the main bodice from Jo-Ann Fabrics that I’ve had for years. It has a cool digital design that I absolutely adore! I used black cotton jersey remnants from Fabric Mart as a contrasting color for the sleeves and hood. It brings out the beautiful pinks and oranges of the primary fabric.
Styling
Leather Pants. I paired this hoodie with faux leather pants from Not Your Daughters Jeans. I have a few similar pairs in my wardrobe that I turn to for jazzing up fun tops. These are unique because they have a faux leather front and Ponte knit jersey in the back.
Black Boots. Doc Martens are amazingly cute boots, so when I saw these at my local Goodwill last year, I scooped them up immediately. The curved block heel is what sold me on this wardrobe essential. I dusted and shined them to perfection and now they look as good as new!
Silver Hoops and Bracelet. I’ve been loving big earrings since Middle School and one of my favorite styles is hoops. Big hoops, little hoops, and double hoops; you name it and I’m here for it! These silver hoops are a basic pair that I picked up from Target. They give this look a cool and hip 90’s style that I’m digging these days. I added a matching cuff bracelet from my collection to accent the earings even more. Here are some similar versions from Amazon:
