Hello Everyone:
If you want a cool way to jazz up a plain outfit, add a little punch of red to make it stand out from the crowd! With this thought in mind, I decided to sew a cute red skirt to add some flair to my fall wardrobe.
Today, I’m sharing my review of the newly released Glissando Skirt by Love Notions Patterns. This pattern is available in sizes XS to 5X for full hips of 34.5 –59.5”. It features an exposed button fly, front slant pockets (my absolute favorite pocket style), and optional back pockets. In addition, there are options to sew shorts or cropped pants for even more versatility. This pattern is designed for stable wovens including, denim, corduroy, and other mid-weight fabrics.
Fabric and Notions
I used a lovely stretch denim sateen from Fabric Mart Fabrics. The color of this fabric is a bright and bold and in a cherry-colored red that I love. It is completely opaque and provides just enough stretch for a good fit. However, it is definitely on the lighter side of what I would consider denim.
I had the cutest tortoiseshell buttons in my stash that I was saving for the right project. I purchased them from a thrift store a few years ago and love how the brown and black shades enhance and contrast with the red color of the fabric.
Sewing
I was between sizes and made a quick mock-up in a size 14 based on my measurements. It came out al little too big, so I sized down to size 12. This size was a better fit for me better because of the stretch of the fabric. I also shortened the length by two inches for my height.
This was my first time sewing a button fly and the directions walked me through each step. There are several tiny steps that must be made in exact order, but they are easily achieved if you take your time and follow the detailed instructions included with the pattern. I used Frixion Pens along with the included button-fly guide pattern piece to achieve even top-stitching on the fly.
Styling
I chose to wear a simple black tee and a lovely scarf that came with one of my suits to add a bit more sophistication. I added my favorite western-style booties to match the red in the skirt. Alternatively, I can wear this skirt with a cute blazer. I pulled out my red, white and black floral blazer that I made using Butterick 6328 I made it to participate in the contest on Patternreview.com.
