The Itch-to-Stitch Crystal Cove Cami and My Second True Bias Mave Skirt: I’m Loving the Faux Dress Look this Summer!

I am happy to share two of my latest makes made with this gorgeous leaf viscose print from Minerva. This Lavender Viscose Challis print is a fun and lightweight fabric and it’s perfect for hot summer days. I chose to make separates with this lovely design in order to add more versatility to my wardrobe using two great beginner-friendly sewing patterns.

The Crystal Cove Cami

For my top, I chose the Crystal Cove Cami by Itch-to-Stitch Patterns. This is an easy top with some cool features. It has thin spaghetti straps that flatter the neckline. The back features two overlapping curved pieces that allow extra airflow on hot sticky days. There were only a few pattern pieces for this pattern including: the straps, the front bodice, the back bodice with curved hem, and the front and back facings. I sewed a size ten for my 36-inch bust.  I didn’t have to make any fit alterations to this well-drafted pattern. Its has a great size range (0-20) with bust cup options from A to D cup! It sewed up fairly quickly and the directions were clearly explained. I especially enjoyed how the instructions allow you to adjust the straps to fit based upon your own personal preferences during the construction process. 

The Mave Skirt

For my skirt, I chose to make the recently released Mave Skirt by True Bias Patterns. This is a fun skirt pattern with multiple styling options. You can see my full review of this skirt in my first Mave Skirt Review here: Creating a Dress Look with Separates using the True Bias Ogden Cami and Mave Skirt.  I made the same alterations as the first for my height by shortening the main skirt piece by two inches and the flounce by three inches. I love how this skirt turned out in this fabric.

The Fabric

This is a beautiful print with large leaves, dashed lines and geometric shapes throughout the design. It’s lightweight and drapey and is perfect for any project requiring a flowy fabric. The lavender color is unique and stands out against the pure white background. The fabric sewed smoothly on my sewing machine smoothly and was completed in no time.

Styling

I love how separates can easily be incorporated into my current wardrobe. I can wear these pieces together to obtain a fun faux dress look when I tuck the blouse into the skirt. Alternatively, I can wear this cami top with some cute white linen shorts, skirt or pants. I can even wear it with a sassy pair of jeans and a blazer for a dressy-casual look. The skirt can be worn with a classic white tee, or a tight-fitting lavender knit tank top as well.

Final Thoughts

I love how this outfit turned out in this pretty print. I know I’ll be wearing these pieces all summer long in many different ways.
